Bone Scan

Health Tools

A Bone Scan is a nuclear imaging test that helps diagnose and track several types of bone disease. The most common reasons for performing a Bone Scan is to detect areas of abnormal bone growth due to fractures, tumours, infection, or other
bone diseases.

How the test is done?

an injection of a small amount of radiopharmaceutical will be injected into one of your veins. After the injection, there is a delay of a few hours. This delay is necessary to allow the material to accumulate into your bones. After the appropriate amount of time, the scanner will move slowly over you several times as it detects the gamma rays emitted by the tracer in the bone tissue.
